(assuming the threads on the bj studs are in good shape) - put the bj in its socket in the lower control arm and jack up the arm from under the shock fitting (which will put tension on the bj stud and should keep it from spinning).
Sounds good. the car's in the air waiting on the flywheel to come and the clutch to go back in, so it looks like I'll have to wait to take it down. Kind of figured your answer was what was going to need to happen. Thanks!

They'd still spin using an impact gun, wouldn't they?

For most guns, no. The rpms and the hammering action are wondrous. But, best to avoid those whenever possible when assembling.

just as an FYI...the threads on the ball joints are pretty easy to destroy, it's probably not the best idea to use an impact on them

Ya, I'm thinking I'll wait 'till I get her down off the jack stands and then put them under the lower "A-arms" to put tension on and see how that goes. Flywheel is back and beautiful, clutch goes on as soon as that's in, then the tranny goes back and reassemble all of the parts that had to come off for the job. Waiting on new plugs to get here, add coolant, and aWAYYYYYY we go!!

I cannot seem to get these ball joint bolts to seat enough to torque them they just keep spinning. I have the lower A-arms on jack stands, so the weight of the entire rear end is on them and still nada. Suggestions??

I got one using an impact wrench, but they don't seem to be seating correctly even when tightened to torque. I'm really kind of lost here!

What do you mean by not seating correctly? What is not seating correctly?
If worse comes to worse, you could slot the bottom of the stud with a cut-off tool (which has a thin cutting disc). This would allow you to hold the stud in place with a flat blade screwdriver while tightening with a wrench.

Got them all "tightened, but what I mean is that the "bolt" part doesn't seem to be dropping all the way down into the hole on the A-arm. Give me a second and I'll post pix.
