i have assembled a bunch of "new" transmissions and they always quite down once the gears have had time to wear a little. I put a quaife gear kit in my civic and at first i couldn't even hear the radio. after about 800miles it was almost like stock

Honda service would not be likely to fix a broken diff. They would simply order a complete diff and just swap it.
This is not a difficult job but it can be a tricky one. If done incorrectly, you will regret having ever heard of "rear gear change".

I have the 4.44s with a Kaaz LSD. Coupled with the SC's power, the car is incredible on the track. Some of the lower speed turns that I take in 3rd gear are higher in the RPM range now and the car rockets at the exit of the turns.
The only noise I have from my diff is the Kaaz clattering a bit when the fluid is still cold and I turn at slow speed while applying power. Once the fluid warms up, it is nice and silent.
Rick's gears are one of the best upgrades I have done to this car - thanks Rick.

once the ring gear is in it is too late to worry if you are not going to take it back out. I agree with xviper- have a truck or rear wheel drive specialist set the lash and follow the tourque specs from the Honda service manual if you can't find a qualified tuner/race shop.

I have received a couple of PM's lately from owners who have had a "troublesome" install. I cannot stress enough, the importance of selecting your mechanic carefully. A good mechanic does NOT necessarily make a good rear diff mechanic.
In today's world of FWD cars, a good rear diff man is not an easy find.

The only difference is price. They're the same gears from the same manufacturer.
xviper is so right. The installer is everthing and he must have extensive experience with diffs.
