rear end vibrations
I've seen several posts on this - and still haven't solved my similar problem. Got my 2004 S2000 w/ 30K miles in Dec '08. Had a rear vibration. Balanced the tires and actually replaced some wheels. Got better, but still there. It was odd... it would vibrate at 38 mph SOMEtimes. Seemed to be excited by a groove or small bump in road. Then would disappear. It's gotten worse w/ time. In fact, at 70-80 mph, after car warms up, it gets REALLY bad.
I jacked up car w/ wheels off and spun it up. After warming up some, I can recreate the phenomena from 70-90 mph. I pulled the axles and inspected the CV joints. No noticeable wear. They do feel kind of "loose" though. I'm thinking all that's left is the axles or the differential. I'm planning to replace the axles and see if that helps. Have several axle options. Raxles sells some that sound good - but they reuse CV cups. That doesn't sound too good. Driveshaftshop builds some from scratch - also have level 0.1 2.9 & 5.9 axles. The 0.1 OEM replacements sound like a fit. Another company, DSScvaxles, builds axles from scratch, but they're made in china. Finally, I located a pair of used upgraded driveshaftshop axles (2.9) along w/ a stock diff on ebay w/ 45K miles on it.
So - I'm looking for advice. Anyone ever nail down this rear-end vibration that comes and goes at 70+ mph? It's not more harsh on acceleration (not worn CV grooves). Thanks guys (new member here).
