The thud you heard may have been caused by a sudden grip of the tires when they were spinning with a lot of force. What the thud was, I don't know. A U joint, CV joint or rear gears, I don't know. The thud your hearing now may be in the drive train somewere south of the transmission, just a guess. What I do know is that if you keep dumping the clutch, you will soon be shopping for a new clutch.

Diff is pretty weak spot too.
