Rear end noise when turning slowly
Every time I am turning hard from a stop I hear this weird noise from the rear end. I am assuming it is the rear diff. But I am not sure if that is normal. Please put me at ease if this is normal or what should I do if it is not?
Thanks
John

The sound is very hard to describe, it is not all that loud. it is kind of a grrrr sound, not rubber rubbing, or anything like that. It is only when I am going real slow and turning real hard. I will have to listen to the sound again to try to identify it better.

You have an '04 which assume is pretty new to you. I'm sure you will hear all sorts of new sounds that you have not heard in other cars you've owned. Break the thing in properly and after a few thousand miles, change the diff fluid out. Make sure you get the right fluid. Not all dealers will know this as the S2000 is the first RWD car they've made lately.
I'm sure what you hear is just the typical sounds a LSD makes when doing tight slow turns. Unless you have abused the car, don't worry about it.

Quote: Is it a rapid popping/clicking sort of sound?
No, it is more of a whirling sound, I am sure it is just the diff. It only happens when I have the wheel turned to lock and going very slow, like doing a U turn.

You are correct, it is very new, less than 1000 miles on it and I am sure you are right. Thanks.
One other question, do you know how to put up a quote with out copying and pasting?

That whirling sound is probably the Torsen. I have always had that noise, but it can be louder or quieter depending on the oil you use. I tried an 80W-140 for a while, and it was extremely loud, but it is barely noticeable with Mobil 1 75W-90.
