Rear diff pins
Has anyone or did anyone else read the article on the Australian fourms about dowel pins being inserted to hold the diff caps in place so they don't fail due to movement.. There was quite a bit of play from the factory if I remember correctly.. Has this been tried any where in the USA.. If so how did it fair? If not why not .. I have an ap1 and was considering doing the modification at my shop .. Tried to search but kep getting pointed back to the article with and with no real follow up I figured I would ask on here.... Any feedback would help and is greatly appreciated!

What Comptech did and what Puddy does is reinforce the caps and use stronger bolts.
Maybe you can link to this Aussie page about the pins?
When the pinion gear turns it turns the ring gear but ALSO pushes the ring away, backwards, not up/down.
That's the nature of the hypoid gears, they slide a lot in relation to eachother.
So if the botls stretch, or the caps stretch, and the necessary play between pinion and ring becomes too much the pinion/ring teeth start to mis-match and BOOM.
Friction plays a huge role in this, friction between pinion teeth and ring teeth sliding against eachother.
A good diff oil will reduce this friction and will make the pinion TURN the ring more than it will push it away.
Benefit: a good diff oil will make your LSD work as it should (= better behavior around corners, especially under throttle at corner exit) and for a longer time.
