Now that you mention it, if this car has been abused, which other components beside the diff should I be inspecting/replacing? Thanks.

Diff is always the first to go, then the transmission (usually second gear) but that doesn't usually happen unless you are boosted and pushing a lot of torque. The engine can take a pounding as long as you maintain it properly. I've pulled my oil pan and my valvecover recently (I'm just under 100k) and everything is as clean as a whistle.

Could be pitted CV joints. Are you lowered?

GAH, I'm having the same issues with a clicking sound in the rear. My driver side axle got all messed up BUT I changed the cv and the sound is still there. I'm going to change the fluids and see if I'm just low on that or if completely gone. I wanted to know what should I do if the diff is toast? And how could I know that for sure? Help!

Try loosening the axle nuts and then torque them back down to 222 ft pounds, this may fix the sound you hear. If this does not resolve it, drain the diff and check for derbies metal or heavy metallic sheen in the oil.
