Not really under the hood. More like - to the side and behind.

While washing the car I felt the driver's side rear quarter panel moving back and forth, near the fender well. I checked the passenger's side panel and it was snug - enough to shake the car when I grabbed it.

It appears that the mounting hardware just insde the fender is still there, but has somehow become loose. Since I can't see a thing on the back side of that button shaped attachment in the well, I can't tell how to tighten it back up. I can maybe get a good look if I lay under the car, but as I said I just washed the car and the ground was wet.

Any suggestions for a DIY cheapskate?

There better be a HELM'S under the tree, Santa!

Thanx all,
Hockey

Has your car ever been wrecked in this area?

Nope, but after almost 60k miles, things are understandably starting to come loose. I also noticed two of the front bumper bolts are missing under the front of the car. It's a little freaky finding things loose and/or missing. Makes me wonder what else I missed.

The rear quarter panels are welded on not bolted on. So for them to come loose would be pretty weird if you haven't been in a wreck.

Very strange indeed. Definitely no wreck.

If it IS welded on, what are the black plastic "rivet" looking attachments running thru the wheel well edge. They don't appear to be there just for the fender liner.

Keep the ideas coming, PLEASE.

Thanx again!

You wouldn't use plastic tabs to hold a quarter panel to the frame. Trust me it's welded on.

Just looked outside at the car. Not welded. I can see a hex head bolt at the top of the qtr panel, near the seam where the two come together. The point of connection is tight there. The play is much lower. I can even hear it clicking back and forth as I move it.

Hey MOD,

I blew it!!! Can you change the title to Rear Bumper Coming Loose.
I knew it was in the rear of the car, and on the quarter of the car, but the area in question is not the quarter panel, its the rear bumper wrapped around to the rear wheel.

Duh!

Okay, okay!

Now that "turbo_pwr" turned the light bulb on inside my head and I realized I actually meant the rear bumper.

I know - idiot.

Does this help to solve my problem? Somehow I think the solution is only a couple of posts away.....
