Default Rear axle nut: ?what size socket and ? undo locking tab

what size socket is the lock nut on the rear axle?

also, what's the correct way to lift the locking tab

is the correct torque 181 ft-lb.....i've seen 225 ft-lb in a post.

36mm. I have never bothered to undo the tab- I ust take them off with an impact wrench. Never damaged an axle by doing so. Sorry, I don't know the correct torque.

thanks, do you re-use the nut and re-stake the tab with a drift?

No, It's not reccomended to reuse any stake nut. It's actually a poor locking device, But that's what Honda and most every other manufacturer uses.

181 ft-lb is the torque settng in the Service Manual.

wasn't there some sort of service bulletien on tighting the axle nut to a higher torque spec?

No it was just a consensus for the guys with squeaks.

These was something issued by Honda about increasing the torque on them (Here).

i'm going to get new bolts and torque them to 220

what kind of grease or oil do you use on them?

Please post socket size and part number when you get a chance.

Honda has its own grease (urea type) that is recommended for its clutch replacement; it probably can be used in this application as well.
