so you recommend UR kit? whats the biggest difference between all the kits? UR, Speed craft, spool, spugen, ect? i know they use different fuel management ect. What do you guys think? i know each kit has its own post but I havn't really seen many posts with which one is the most reliable, each kit seems like it gets started but never finished.

If your only concern is the low end,Why not just go with a different diff. 4.33 or 4.77.

The problem with a smaller turbo is increased backpressure which leads to detonation. Get a properly sized turbo and just run it at 3-4.5 psi. A T3/T4 hybrid in a 60 trim would work.
My thoughts exactly
I was going to recommend a t3/t4 with a stage 1 or 2 wheel, .48 turbine housing and a 50 trim comp. A bit smaller than what our kit runs but nothing with excessive back pressure that would lead to detonation
You won't get 265-275 rwhp tho. It would be more on the order of 235-240 which ain't all that bad. The biggest thing you would get is a much broader power band. Who cares what the max power number is you would have alot more power throughout the power band.
Yes that sounds reasonable. You may get 250whp if your car is tuned well.
Join the Junkyard turbo list on Yahoo and find out what cars used a turbo of about that size and then buy a used one for $50ish and spend $125 for a rebuild and start there. If (WHEN) you get the bug for more power GRUNT GRUNT, you can always upgrade fuel delivery and turbos
Used turbos can become your worst nightmare. I deal with people daily that want to venture down this path and I throw my 2 cents in but most learn the hard way. Most turbos off junk cars are horribly inefficient sport compressor maps of yester year. On top of it you will roughly spend 250 rebuilding it and another 200-250 for a used turbo. (50 dollars sounds really cheap....but I am not aware of the yahoo junkyard turbo list ) By the time you are done you are in the range of 500 dollars for a crappy turbo that has no warranty and if rebuilt incorrectly will leak oil. Spend 200 more dollars and get the real deal and most importantly peace of mind.[QUOTE]the question is, why such a low boost of 4-5psi?

I'll keep an eye open for the stage 2 then. My main concern with a turbo kit is reliablity. I can deal with not haveing the most top end power but I drive it daily so I need something that I can depend on to work the next day. Please inform us when you finish the stage 2 kit, I will definitly look forward to it.

And i drop in once more on my thread..... Thnx for all the info guys. About the gears. I don't want to go that route because i still want to improve my top end performance. Even with only 250rwhp, thats around 290-295 at the crank, which aint exactly sheepish...... Also, i appreciate the info as far as which turbo to use, and i will be going with a t3/4 60 from turbonetics. I would go with the 50 trim, but now that y'all are throwing the word detonation around i'm getting antsy..... I think i'm just going to tell them to run 5psi, and see what i can get. If i only get 250rwhp, then so be it. If i get 275-280..... woohoo!!! One question. I have the first generation manifold from speedcraft, what type of adapter will i need to connect it to the 3'' exhaust from spugen. I'm guessing it'll ll need to be custom after the manifold to the point where it connects to the exhaust, correct?

Nice topic Brandon, I am also going to be looking for a reliable turbo in the near future. It is nice to see what some of the companies are suggesting/claiming.

My 2c as well . . .
I have been doing my homework on all of this stuff for quite some time now . . . I was very skeptical on boosting my S after a very bad experience with my del Sol. But I have changed my mind, thank god ! Now, unlike many of you I am not up for shelling out 5,500 on a kit. I have priced all parts needed and have come up with a very modest 3,500 with dyno time included. Ok, here goes :
900 Turbo-piping, down-pipe, manifold, intake ( check EBAY for . UR racing turbo ! )
450 Turbonetics T3/T4 found over 30 of them for this price NEW
450 Wastegate / BOV
300 Intercooler
250 440 Injectors
250 E-Manage " piggyback "
350 Tune the darn thing
200 Oil lines and re-location kit
500 Turbo timer/ boost gauge/ boost controller ( a ACV-R would be best along with timer of choice . . . I like the BLITZ )
SO that's about 3,600, AND you could take your extra 2000 and take your mechanic out to lunch/dinner/drinks . . . Whatever to pamper him up for the raping he will receive when you get him in his shop and don't let him leave till your car is a monster.
As for tuning, I know a few shops but does anybody have suggestions on who is " THE MAN " when it comes to tuning S's ? Location not important but would like it to be as close to Washington D.C. as possible.

Brandon,

please post your progress, i'm kinda in the same boat, just want a wider powerband but want to preserve the daily driveability of it.

I'll keep you up to date, but it'll be a while, maybe as much as two months. The shop that is doing it is Next Level in Dover Delaware, and the man would be Rob Falcone. Right now i plan on using an apexi AVC-R w/autometer gauges. Couple that to my VAFC and my Apexi RSM and it shouldn't be hard to get sponsored...... j/k
