Default A really low boost S2000

What size turbo would you need to have if you were only running 3-4lbs of boost, trying to achieve say 265-275rwhp??? Thnx.

I have to ask...why?

With all of the hassle and cost involved with adding FI, regardless of boost level, why go with such low levels? Three pounds or 30 pounds, you'll still need at least $5k to make the basics work.

A few reasons actually. Reason one, less can go wrong...., at least that is what would make the most sense. Two, the only gain i really want is to make up for the severe lack of power down low. And three, less stress on the engine in the long run, as it is driven fairly often.

Brandon, I dont think your idea is such a bad one. If all your looking for is some lower end grunt, utilize a really small t3/t4 and limit boost to about 4.5psi. The car at these boost levels has some serious get up and go in the lower rev range. And you will not have to worry as much about detonating on the stock block ect. I think you can get about 250whp out of those levels with a smaller turbo however, the are under vtec will pull nicely and you will get some more torque. Remeber peak numbers will not be up there but driveability will improve

if you were to boost about 4.5psi and use a smaller turbo what other things would you not need IE: bigger injectors, ect. or could you buy for example a spool kit and just turn the boost down?

You could get away without bigger injectors and utilize a black box/FMU setup like our stage1. Yes you could use a kit like lets say ours. And you would just let us know that you wanted it mainly for the low end. We could custom spec out for you a smaller turbo or you just run a regular kit and turn down the boost if you planned on upgrading or changing your mind in the future

The problem with a smaller turbo is increased backpressure which leads to detonation. Get a properly sized turbo and just run it at 3-4.5 psi. A T3/T4 hybrid in a 60 trim would work.

That is a pretty good level to turbo as very little will be needed to make it work. You can probably make it work with a FMU.

You won't get 265-275 rwhp tho. It would be more on the order of 235-240 which ain't all that bad. The biggest thing you would get is a much broader power band. Who cares what the max power number is you would have alot more power throughout the power band.

Join the Junkyard turbo list on Yahoo and find out what cars used a turbo of about that size and then buy a used one for $50ish and spend $125 for a rebuild and start there. If (WHEN) you get the bug for more power GRUNT GRUNT, you can always upgrade fuel delivery and turbos.

terry, would this be much cheaper than going with the average priced turbo kit for the s2000?

the question is, why such a low boost of 4-5psi? why not 6-7psi?

I would suggest you get a UR turbo kit and have them set it up for 6 psi of boost. You will pull about 280 RWHP ( with 93 octain) with this setup and it will be reliable. If you want more low end grunt, have them set it up with a dual ball bearing turbo.
