Really bad 1st to 2nd grind today...
I was pulling out onto a 2-lane highway this morning and punched it in 1st, then went to change to 2nd at around 7500rpm.
There was a godawful chattering crunchy noise, and it didn't go into gear. Luckily the upcoming light turned red, so I just coasted to a stop.
The car would not go into 1st gear at the light, but I managed to get it into 2nd and it moved off ok.
By the time I needed 1st gear again (15 mins and 18 miles later), it was fine, and I had no problem with the gears for the last few miles of my commute.
Do you think I screwed up the gearbox at all?
Dave.

after a hard 1-2 grind, it is normal for you to select 1st gear.
as for damage, you probably did not do anything permanent, however, that's something that can only be answered by 1 of 2 things:
A. time
B. tearing the tranny apart to look
