Driving to work today the Maint' light came on blinked a few times and went off. I'm not even close to 100k yet but could this be a pre warning light? a scheduled maint' light?
what are the things i should think about? or be prepared to do. the car is mechanically sound. i just done an oil- tranny diff fluid change last week. being that i just bought the car.

That just means that according to the car's count, you're close to needing an oil change. The check engine light is a different story, but the maint required light is completely harmless.
Enjoy the new car

Agree'd. The blinking Maintenance Req light is just reminding you to change the oil. It comes on every so many miles, and IIRC, its around every 5k miles. Not 100% sure but its around there.
To reset the light, do this.
1. put key in
2. hold down the trip button
3. turn key to ON position
4. continue to hold the trip button until maintenance light disappears takes 15-30 seconds

It's not just telling you to change the oil - it's telling you that your mileage is approaching a service interval. Different intervals require different things....inspecting tie-rods and boots and changing diff fluid and adjusting valves in addition to changing the oil. If you are approaching 100k you probably need at least a few other things done, especially if the previous owner didn't maintain properly.
