Default Rays Lug Nuts Woes

I picked up a set of rims and they came with a used set of alluminum Ray lug nuts, manual and all.

Read the manual, followed it, install the rims with the aluminum hub (not sure what its good for). M12 lugs torqued to 100 N/m with a Husky Torque wrench.

Drove 4 miles, pulled over and check the lugs. 1 nut was just floating there. checked the other 20 and the rears were good the other front had a couple that took a bit of tightening.

drove another 4 miles and pulled over. 4 bolts were loose this time in the front. Tighten them up and drove another 2 miles and checked. 2 of them in the front are loose.

When I initially installed them, while the rims were in the air, I tighten them (STAR PATTERN ALWAYS) to make sure they are flush before torquing them.

When torquing them, the fronts would torque to spec, then I would go over the set again. They would move another 1/4 turn and hit torque spec, go through them AGAIN and they would keep turning a 1/4 turn or so. Eventually I just drove off and had the ^^ part of the description happen.

Did I strip them??? (Looking inside the nut doesn't seem to look to bad)

You might have gotten faulty ones.

Or....another likely scenario:

What aluminum hubs are you talking about? The hub centric rings? Do you have the correct ones on the front and back?

The front and back hub diameters are different on the S2000.

The rear hub is a smaller diameter PCD.

That's most likely your issue.

Yes, hub centric rings. Installed the thicker ones on the front.

I thought if a nut was striped it would just keep spinning. These will tighten up but go loose very quickly.

The thick ones go out back. The thin ones go out front.

If by thick/thin you mean the wall thickness of the rings themselves.

If you installed the rings onto the wheel bore and then put the wheels on the car, it'd be easy to screw this up. If you put the rings on the hubs themselves, there's really only 1 way they fit.

The fact that they're tightening up and going loose quickly tells me that the wheel is not on correctly. This happens when hub centric rings are in disorder.

Try taking off the centric rings all together and put the wheel on if switching them around doesn't work. See if the lugnuts get tight then. You may not have the correct rings.

The rear hub is a smaller diameter PCD.
PCD stands for: Pitch Circle Diameter (right?)
That has absolutely nothing to do with the hub diameter.
The PCD of the S2k (and most maybe all Honda) wheels is 114,3mm (=4.5 inch) and the S2k wheels have 5 holes, often revered to as 5x114.3

The front hub diameter = 70mm.
The rear hub diameter = 64mm.
Make sure the right hubcentric ring is where it needs to be.

The ring was fitted on the rim, the rim then installed on the wheel hub.

The rings seem to only fit in a certain manner, it was natural on where and which to use, but i'll double check tomorrow.

The one rim doesn't look to be flush against the hub on one of the front rims only. Funny thing with that rim, the lugs didn't seem loosen as bad as the other front whitch is flush against the hub rim.

Are the lugs the correct shape for the wheels?
