Ok... I guess i'll just try the mirror part first... as I might have more luck there. Sounds like it'll be something rubbery or something elastic, because when you swivel the top part, it sort of goes up a bit as you turn, and then "clicks" down into place when it is in the normal position.
I'm just surprised that no one has this problem... doesn't anyone else swivel the mirror?

I don't fold my mirrors, but they do get folded in parking lots occasionally. I assume this is from big asses walking past it. My passenger side mirror has been loose since it was new, but I've never noticed it rattling from bumps. I just notice it when I wash / wax.

I had my drivers side mirror loose, as described above.
I complained to the dealer and they gave me a new mirror assembly under warranty. You might just have them replace it if it rattles.

Mine is a 99/00 car... out of warranty unfortunately.
I guess I might have to go back to the original idea of putting some double-sided sticky take with a small thin rubber or something there to stop it rattling.
At first I thought it was the well documented passenger-side seatbelt rattle, but after securing it, I found it was actually the side view mirror.
I part in places with quite a few cars around, so I usually fold it to make sure people don't ding it or scratch it while the shove past.
Anyway... thanks for the ideas. If you do think of any other suggestion, please post :-)
