Default rattling noise while in 3rd gear

Has anyone experienced any rattling while driving in gear? It seems to be most apparent when I'm in 3rd vs. other gears. It also seems like its either the gears or the clutch.

Thanks
J

I don't know exactly what you are hearing (of course), but my tranny (more specifically, my gearbox) makes a sort of rattling sort of noise when I'm in any gear maintaining 3000 RPMs.

I posted on one of the s2k boards I frequent and I test drove another S on the lot at the Honda dealer and the noise is common and from what I can tell nothing to worry about. In fact, I've got another 500-1000 miles on the car and the noise is pretty much gone.

Don't know if that helps any.

This is definitely not a common noise. Thanks for your inut though. I think I have to at least replace the bearings and maybe a few synchros.

I think from the clutch area.... but not too sure. I'm dropping it off tomorrow.

J....Is the noise when you cruise, on the gas, or off the gas?

Lemme know what the dealer says it's going to cost to fix.

I've got my original 03 trans in mint condition, if it's gonna cost an arm and a leg I can swap it out one of these Saturdays....bring a book

I actually figured it out last night. It seems to be that the noise is only happening around 4800 rpm. Is that weird or what. I could hear it when I let off the gas first but when I played last night it was constant at that rpm when giving it gas....

hmm, i get a noise at around 4k but only when im decellerating in gear, but my noise is more like something vibrating in either the dash or just beyond the firewall. It sounds litterally like a loose bracket or somthing which happens to vibrate at that particular frequency.

it dissapears as soon as I either give it gas or take it out of gear.

and im not talking about the clutch/tranny buzz which ive gotten used to at this point.

sweetj, if you have some time off this weekend I can take a look and see if its the same thing that im experienceing, that is if honda cant fix it in time.

That is kinda the same thing for mine as well. Its very weird. My car is old. I've had almost all of the TSBs done... clutch/buzzing, gear grinds.... anyway I'll let you know. It's going to my mechanic not Honda. They'll charge me an arm and a leg. He was a Honda head mechanic for over 15 years and now has his own shop. If I need work done I always trust him.
