Rattling on 1st gear
Hey guys,
So I picked up MY08 about 5 months ago, and I've noticed that the car vibrates and rattles on a FIRST gear moving from a still position if I don't step on gas sufficiently. This rattling is apparent only on a first gear and beyond first gear I don't find any vibration or rattling. I'm also pretty new to a manual shift, so I wasn't sure as to if this issue was common when not stepping on gas enough on a first gear because it seems like the rattling will eventually lead to stalling the engine. If you guys have any thoughts, please do share!
Thanks,

I think you will find that you are not feathering the clutch properly for the amount of throttle that you are inputting (be it too little or too much - but more typically too little in my experience). It is a fine balance. Is this your first manual transmission? Have you practiced dead starting (ie without rolling backwards) on a hill using the handbrake and trading off hand brake and clutch and throttle to get you moving? Good practice!!! If you haven't done this before maybe rent some time with a driving school that can teach manual and burn our their clutch plate rather than your own! Nice color on your car - I'm envious. Take care of it.

These cars are more touchy than most, and add to that a less experienced stick-shift driver you get exactly what you describe. The best thing I can say is do one or both of these things: more gas, slower clutch pedal release.
An easy way to get used to it is to find the clutch engagement point. Find an empty street or parking lot and come to a stop. Get off the brake and let the clutch pedal out very slowly until the car starts to inch forward (if it doesn't inch forward you're letting out too quickly). This tells you exactly where the clutch engagement point is, then you can practice and your muscle memory will eventually come into play. You'll automatically let off on the pedal quickly until you get to the engagement point where you will then slow down and ease off the clutch pedal while also giving it gas.
