I had this and it was the trunk springs. Where they make an x in the middle of the trunk. So I used some thicker foam padding and taped it around one of the springs and it stopped.

I have a small piece of metal inside one of my frame tubes. It rattles and slides back and forth when I go around turns. The only solution is to use VTEC to drown it out. It's a hard life.

I don't have a solution but I just wanted to add that I believe I have the same issue as the OP. I haven't located the cause, either, and it only happens when I go over harsher bumps. Again, also only with the top up. I don't like driving with the top up and I rarely do it so I haven't investigated too much.

Looks like im joining the club. Only happens over washboard type places in the road or a harsh bump. Mine definately sounds like metal clanging against metal somewhere behind the drivers seat. Anyone know how to make the trim pieces on the roll bars to stop creeking when its cold?

I've got that exact noise, happens over road irregularities. I used to think it was around the seatbelt area but now I think it is from the top of the metal bar under the sof top just behind and to the left of the driver head rest area in the soft top. It is hard to look for it while driving, you hear it but can't see anything.

This may sound weird, but could it be your seat belts on your seat? I noticed a rattle with the top up (can't hear anything but the wind and my radio with the top down!) that was distinct on both sides of the car. Same type of rattle/creak. I found that if I held the seat belt up, it went away on the driver side. Got some seat belt shoulder pads and placed them over the seat where the seat belt meets it. Took care of the problem. Of course, mine is a 2005 with 54k miles on it that I took ownership 3 weeks ago. Been working to make sure I understand and eliminate all noises!
