Gamble, good luck in trying to do at least part of the work yourself. I also believe that you can at least pull the head and put it back together. But you should definitely do everything by the book. Replace the bolts, replace the gaskets, scrape the old gasket material off, clean everything thoroughly, and torque everything to spec. Don't try to save time, and don't try to save money. Not on an engine. Not on THIS engine. Otherwise I'm sure you will learn a lesson or two the hard way.

Like I said it's a pain in the arse to time the S, you have to remove the alternator, oil pan, and mess with the oil pump as well. you better know what you're doing, or else money money money... good luck man.

Turn the engine over by hand with all the spark plugs removed before attempting to start. This way, you can feel if there is any valve/piston contact.
