Ive been noticing that my tire pressures randomly drop on tires on the passenger side. I check my tire pressure every month and don't know why this is happening. here's the situation so far.


Checked tire pressure in september and noticed that the passenger rear tire was down to 16psi. Every other tire was either 30-32.

Checked again in october, every tire was at 32.

Checked again today and now my passenger front tire is at 24psi and all the other tires are still at 32.

I thought i had a puncture in my passenger rear when it was at 16psi but i removed the tire and found nothing. I don't drive aggressively so im not doing alot of hard turns.

The tires are hankook RS2 that i had put on last winter so they are only a year old and have ~4000 miles on them.

Any suggestions on why this is happening?

can't say why it happens on passenger side only, but it sounds like air is seeping out along the rim to tire contact surface, pourous rim ?. This can be caused by a couple of issues, perhaps the rim was dirty when they installed the tire, it could be corrossion on the edge of the rim, or just a faulty tire. Might be a poor tire installation if they didn't take the time to clean and inspect the rim before mounting the tire.

fill the the trouble tire up to about 40-45psi and spray each side with water to check for any snow leaks

if the drop is random, it might be a slow leak that is also self sealing depending on the orientation of the tire. can be caused by a variety of different things.

just spray down the tire w/ lots of soap and watch for air bubbles.

why not use slime flat fix?

giant bucket, soapy water, overinflate tires 40~ish psi. watch for bubbles. if you dont have a giant bucket,

water down rim, pour soap on it.

You can check the stems real easy too with some soapy water.

Because it will jack your TPMS, and has ammonia which over time can corrode aluminum. They say they use additives to prevent corrosion, but I wouldn't put it in my tires anyways.

you aren't using a gas station tire gauge are you?

Assuming that's not the case...

I have had grit/stuff get into the valve stems and cause the needle to be slightly depressed causing a slow leak.

On my previous car i switched to metal valve stems. Never had a problem after that.

This is why they say to check your pressure at every fill up.
