Sorry, I wasn't asking you if you had any noises... maybe I should start another thread.

There is no tensioner associated with the VTEC solenoid. My only reservation about removing it is that it has a very complicated gasket with a built in filter screen. Once the solenoid is removed, the gasket may either not be re-usable due to having developed a "memory" of its previous shape and may not sit in exactly the same orientation for a good seal OR, it may be damaged in the removal process. If you are going to remove it, it would be wise to have a new gasket on hand. Also, putting the solenoid back on can be tricky as it is very easy to install it not entirely flat with all bolts tightened in stages. If this should occur, the gasket can shift or get damaged and it will leak from that area.
Besides, the oil gets pumped through the oil filter first before going anywhere, so one would think that the oil filter will catch any debris. There really is no point in checking for debris at the VTEC solenoid, at least in terms of metal particles. I think Honda wants us to clean that screen out from time to time just incase there is any sludge buildup that might impede oil flow. If you change your oil at the proper interval, sludge should be the last thing you need to worry about.

So i cut the filter open today, I have seen the inside of alot of filters mostly off of big machines though, HUGE engines. Is there supposed to be ANY metal on that bad boy? There are a FEW very small pieces of metal, BARELY visable with the naked eye, and small microscopic stuff too. On machines this is farly typical but they are also rathe rlarge.....think this is anything to worry about? i did a full oil change and drove it like 30+ miles.....still noting differnt about the way it runs....smooth as silk all the way to 9K i think i am ok, but wondering if anyone had ever looked at a S2k filter with 4thousand miles on it and what they saw!

It must be something in the air around here. I have 32k miles and have never burned a drop of oil. I go check it the other day and it is 2 quarts low. Seems to be ok, but gonna watch it for awhile.
