Not to knock on xviper's crafty work, but wouldn't it be easier/nicer to use a Coastal Metals grill cover?

Your comment is most welcome and I don't take it as an insult in any way. I did the bug mesh because I didn't really fancy the grill on my car (kinda makes the car look like it's got teeth and the black ones look like rotten teeth). It's just a personal preference. Yet, I didn't want to leave the rad and A/C cannister to be exposed to rocks (and bugs). I've put this sort of mesh on all the cars I've owned. Keeps the rad in near perfect condition. Once the bugs dry, they either just fall off or they are easily brushed off. I've never fancied having the rad fins all bent out of shape.

I never thought about that before... but you made me look at my car in a different light now. (LOL) It's a good idea and I agree with the purpose and like the low-cost for implementing it.

Rotten teeth - I love it.

I have never had the small critter paranoia enough to want to add anything to the fornt of my cars. I just hose down the rad now and then.

Xviper, this is a great inexpensive idea. Can you suggest where I might be able to find the mesh material that you used? I live in Washington State and the closest thing that I have found is black nylon screen mesh, which is really flimsy and may be prone to melting. You said an outdoor fabric store, but I can't think of a place like that around here. I would appreciate any direction. Thanks.

I'm not familiar enough with your local retail sources. The store that sells this stuff here also sells material for making tents (canvass). They also sell outdoor clothing material like "Thinsulate" and waterproof fabric. Sorry, but that's about as much as I can tell you.

That's a great idea you came up with.

Will the next project be a cattlecatcher for the local fauna?

Believe it or not, the construction of this mesh material and the way I've got it installed will be enough to protect your A/C cannister and rad from a bird hit. A small rodent will be no problem.

Did you secure the bottom of the mesh, or is it just hanging down?
