Default R//P question

fellow s2k brothers. I need some advice and opinions. Any help would be appreciated.

I recently purchased a 4.44 r/p set and lsd. when I had the 4.44 installed without my new lsd it was LOUD. I mean louder than my j's70rr exhaust. They didn't drive the car, but ran it on the lift. Obviously it wasn't installed correctly, so they took it out and started all over. Same noise again. I figured maybe they don't know how to install a final drive gear set. So I tow the car home and take the diff out to get ready for my new lsd. I took it to a reputable performance shop that has done a few s2k differentials. He advise me that the pinion has been seated incorrectly and that he does not recommend using it. He says that it would be winning loud. Is this possible? I can't use the r/p set anymore? Its bassicly trash?
Can I get the r/p set repaired?

Please guys any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks for taking the time to read my post.

If the previous shop screwed up the pinion depth setting or ring gear backlash and ran the gear it may have worn enough to never run quiet when setup correctly.

To put any kind of warranty on there work, the shop is reccomending a gear that hasn't been setup wrong before. Considering the amount of time involved setting up a gear, it's quite understandable.

The gears can't be remachined to repair any wear damage.

In other words, it's most likely a paperweight.

For it to not be usable, something got wrecked when it was being spun around. What seems to be damaged? If nothing is damaged and it's the correct gearset for the car, I'm not seeing why it can't be taken out and re-installed correctly.
If they set it up incorrectly and ran the diff around and damaged something, my view is they own you a new set of gears.

The reason a gear set would be a paperweight if not properly install, is that the break in caused a pattern to be made on the wrong section of the gears. So if it was driven after it was installed for even a few miles, it will never be the same.

I have a set that this was done. I will post up pictures later this weekend. You will be able to see the ware pattern as the marking compound is still on the gears.

Thanks guys for all your inputs and help.

So the r/p set can be used again but will only be noisy? It will not break and cause as diff failure?

That's not what has been implied here. You need to examine the parts very carefully to determine how much damage has occured. But from what you have posted so far, it would seem that those things should sit on your desk as art.
