I use Amsoil 5W30 in the colder months and 10W30 in the hottest 3 months. Generally speaking - there shouldn't be a problem using 5W30 - however, keep in mind not all oils are equal.
Depending on the brand of 5W30 you used - a lesser oil that's already outside of the factory recommendation may not stand up to what you consider "normal" use.
If you're using Amsoil, Redline, M1 Extended Performance (NOT standard M1), Pennzoil Platinum, Delvac, Elf, and a couple of other Euro synthetics - you won't have a problem.
I don't recommend pushing standard M1 or any of the commonly available mineral based oils though. You may run into consumption problems.
I actually get better mileage running Amsoil 5W30.

Serious, oil questions like these have been answered many, many times.
On forums with some moderation posts like these would not live very long.
The OP would be kindly taken by the hand and led towards the FAQ.
But here, we get answers like
Next oil change, use the right oil.
Without any explanation WHY 5W-30 is wrong.
The OP gets the advise to
Also, be gental on the car when it's cold.
That by itself is good advise but in this topic people may think a 5W-30 is bad for your engine and you need to be gentle with a cold engine when you use it....

However..
Blizz actually uses the info he/she's given and reaches the proper conclusion:
so in reality this is better for cold starts. Hmm Interesting. possibly a permanent change then.
As many have.

Long story short:

I wouldn't use 5W-30 in anything but the coldest climates in the S2k.

Is that because you have a Berlina?
If so, then it makes perfect sense.
Otherwise...

You're correct. And I agree with your frustration of n00bs posting these questions.

If we just dumped the thread then we wouldn't be solving much - the OP would still be and post again thinking that something magical must have happened and the thread vanished.

Its more that these questions are asked too much, noob or not.
Asked without taking the effort to search or read the FAQ.
But I'm your man when a nice oil debate is started.

I have come to find out that anything that has to do with oil on this forum can turn into a very heated debate.
Some members are now swearing by 0w20, whereas I will go with a 20w40 in the warmer months here in GA.

My input is just read around, take into consderation where you live(climate), and how hard you drive your car, and take that into consideration when choosing your oil.

5w30 will be fine.

So what are "we" as the Moderator team suppose to do? ..... I mean it's pinned....right at the top.......it says READ FIRST! or FAQ!

Usually this is what happens, they are normally just told where to look - or linked. Locking the threads is fine.....but the problem exists with multiple users posting the same questions, not one user posting the same questions, and not reading the FAQ section.
