Default Quick question concerning transmission fluid...

I took a trip down to the local Honda dealership to purchase some honda MTF. When i got there, i asked the man behind the counter for 2 quarts of honda mtf. he asked "for what kinda of car?" and i replied, s2000. he then told me that the s2000 needed 2.5 quarts so i would have to buy three quarts.

now before i went down there, i read xvipers post on changing the tranny fluid, and xviper stated our tranny uses 1.5 quarts.

so knowing this i told him the tranny only needed 1.5 quarts, and i was only going to purchase 2 quarts. he then gets all red faced and says, if you want to put 1.5 instead of the correct 2.5 then i guess there's not much i can do if you want to damage your transmission.

i then paid the man, took my 2 quarts and left.

my question is...
we do only need 1.5 right?

As I recall you may use a bit more than 1.5 qts...but yes, it's definitely less than 2.

twohoos is correct, the "man behind the counter" was not.

You should take the extra .2 quarts back to him for a souvenir.

You should go back with your Owner's manual and ask him why it says you only need 1.6 quarts if you're really supposed to put 2.5 quarts in.

That would be because the transmission only holds 1.6 quarts.
