Default Quick help needed please

Hi everyone, i have a whineing noise coming from around the gearbox when going along, it gets a higher pitch the faster you go, would this be the gearbox or something else like the diff or drive shafts etc.

I have a gearbox ready to buy if you think its that but dont want to spend my money on one if it wont get rid of the noise.

Thanks, hope for some replys soon

Tim

Yep,fluid first.I've yet to wear out a tranny but did hear that a whining gear box is a sign of wear. How many miles you got? Been tracking?

My psychic diagnosis is that your pinion teeth in the differential are cracking near the base of the teeth and will part company soon.

Get the car on a hoist and listen to the diff and gearbox while its running in gear against a little bit of rear brake, then disconnect the propshaft at the gearbox end and run it up again.

Good luck.
