I have a cheap universal strap-type oil filter wrench that I bought 20 years ago, and it has worked just great on my S2000 filter (as well as all my other Honda filters over the years).

I had no luck with the cap end wrenches. I had several small ones from other cars and I had to go for one of the claw design (giant pliers). The flats and diameter varied significantly from my factory and the gold I used in a pinch (and the store frams for comparison). This claw wrench is really the only way to take off the filters if they are put on right (tight to spec).
