Thumbs up Question regarding max speed in different gears

Hi guys,

I just bought a 2008 CR from it's last owner, after I drove the car for a few times and watching clips online I noticed a problem with my max speed in different gears, my first gear reving to redline gives me around 34mph on a flat road, 2nd gear will do only 54mph, I used to drive an AP1 in the states, so I know for sure it used to do 62mph maxed out in 2nd gear, with the CR I am only doing 54, according to the calculator I should do 36.9 in 1st gear, and 56.5 at 2nd, those numbers don't seem to add up with mine, is there anything that could lead to lower max speed in different gears? Clutch damage? drivetrain damage? The temperature and humidity in Taiwan is slightly higher then LA, around 86F and 80% humidity(thats where I used to drive my old AP1), could that also be a factor to influence my top speed in different gears? Please help me out here.

The 2008 CR only has around 4660 miles on the car, its been well kept and serviced, not in a Honda dealer though, they don't carry any S2k in our country. The car looks very new inside out, it does have a number of mods, I will list them below.
1.Spoon carbon intake
2.Spoon Header
3.Straight Pipe unknown make
4.Spoon N1 dual exhaust system
5.Mugen air filter
6.Rays RE30 17" wheels with stock RE070 tires, 215 F 255 R

Thanks!

Sounds like the previous owner put 4.30 gears in the rear end. After doing the calculations 34 in 1st and 54 in 2nd would be the result of a 4.30 rear end.

by putting 4.30 gears in the rear what do I gain from it? also I heard that the CR wing can reduce your top speed by 10-15kmp.

thanks for helping me out though.

tranny between ap1 and ap2 was different.

If at 75mph you're around 4K rpm in 6th it's the original diff

If you're winding out the engine to redline, it is definitely not a problem. Top speed in a gear limited case is only correlated to engine RPM, transmission gearing, and rear end gearing. Only when you're power limited (such as at top speed) does the engine power come into play, so dont worry. If it drives good, its fine. IF you do have the 4.30 like woot is saying, then you'll just accelerate a little quicker than a stock CR.

Thanks a lot, I will try that out.
Also does the CR wing lowers my top speed? I haven't have the chance to try it out, but from the previous owner he told me the top speed is around 245, which is again lower then a none CR AP2.

Of course you meant 145 right? Yea I've heard that the wings downforce will cause a slight reduction in top speed. Personally the wing is the only feature I don't like about the CR. It's a bit over the top IMO.

I believe he's in Taiwan. 245 KPH = 152 MPH which is right around the normal top speed.

If you are riding the rev limiter to see what the exact top speed of each gear is and 1st results in 34 and 2nd results in 54, there is no need to bother with 6th gear seeing where your rpms are at.

Simply doing the math, of a 4.30 * 1.208 = 5.19 = 34 mph in 1st and 54 mph in 2nd.

4.10 * 1.208 = 4.95 = 36.4 mph in 1st and 55.8 mph in 2nd.

Stock gear ratios and speeds

And heres 4.30 gear ratio top speeds:

Doing the 75 mph test would result in just about the margin of error, as 4.30's only add 200 rpms.

Either way, the rev limiter is 8200 i believe right? Might have to adjust my max rev on these.
