I have a question concerning our instrument clusters: are there bulbs on the back of the cluster which illuminate items such as check engine light, air bag, etc.? If so, how hard is it to remove the bulbs?
i believe the s2k cluster uses led, not bulbs. i'm in the process of looking for a used 06 guage to change my led. i've done it with my celica guage so this one shouldn't be a problem. although taking the guage out of the dash seems to be a problem.

The MIL and all the other indicator lamps on the bottom row of the cluster use bulbs. The gauge backlight with the headlights on are also bulbs.

The speedo, tach, coolant temp and fuel gauge are built into the PSB of the cluster.

I used to work with a girl that had a POS car that had a indicator light on all the time. She carefully cut a piece of tape to cover the light so it would not bother her (the car crapped out a year or so later).

Ok....I am pretty much stuck at step one--removing the three bolts from the bottom steering column cover. One of the freaking bolts won't come off. I haven't been able to loosen it, which is totally ridiculous, and have pretty much called it quits. Pretty lame, huh?
