Default Question about OEM coil pack cover plate.

Does the OEM one come with thermal pads or some way to radiate heat away from the coil packs? With the cover in place I get a CEL, but not without it. It could be my aftermarket coil packs(NGK brand), but with the cover off CEL goes away.

On the cover itself it looks like there's 4 things that were glued on right where the coil packs would go. So should I put thermal pads between the coil and cover if I want to rock the cover?

If so, no thanks, I have a cover for sale on the cheap, polished it myself, badly.

Nothing under the cover.

The four markings are impressions from the 4 rubber blocks on the coil pack harness.

Thermal pads would just insulate and keep the heat in.

Aluminum transfers heat though. If you put your hand on the hot aluminum cover...the heat transfers into your hand and the energy is converted into swearing.

thermodynamics.

You are assuming its heat related. Maybe it is, but also make sure something isn't happening where the cover pinches a wire or presses on a coil pack connector in some way.

Stainless isn't a good heat conductor... that's why SS pans usually add an aluminum or copper core, "clad" or "all clad."

An SS cover with large dimple-die holes would be a nice functional mod and also look sweet. Anyone know of one?
I've seen random pics of some... but I am guessing those were custom fabbed...cuz they were on high-end full car builds.

Probably the Circuit Hero that you have seen, they are aluminium though.

Are the aftermarket coil packs "taller"? Could it be that the plate is pressing down on them so much it's causing them to misfire?

Otherwise I'd suspect it's pinching or shorting a wire.

I would not expect the issue to be heat related, something else must be going on causing the CEL.

2 days beating the crap out of the engine without the cover, no CEL, car drives amazing, doesn't matter what I'm doing. Drive with the cover on and I get a CEL after sitting in traffic for a while, and noticeable loss of power, that comes back once the car starts moving again.

Mechanically the engine is fine, 230ish compression, checked when I replaced the sparkies a few days ago.

Maybe a coil shorting to ground with the cover on.
