Question about new differential?

I would suggest that you break it in in the same manner that you broke the engine in when it was new. Take it easy for several hundred miles, then begin to add load more and more over the next few hundred miles. When you get between 1000 and 2000 miles, change the fluid.

ok...Im due for an oil change in about 1800 miles, so I will change it then. Now, take it easy means I can still VTEC a little bit, just no redline and no high rpm shifts right? Ive been VTEC deprived for about a week and a half while I was baybing the car untill the parts came in....im beginning to go into denial!!! LOL

It takes about 500 miles to break in a new set of gears, so yes, you should take it easy during that period. As xviper said, change the fluid after 500-1000 miles to get any metal filings/shavings from the break-in out of there.

so if I take of slow in 1st, and slowly accelerate, or if I hit second, and the punch it, is that a problem.....as long as Im not shifting hard into second?
Thanks again...I just dont want to run into anymore problems.

As I've tried to indicate before, it has to do with "load" and how much and how abruptly you put that load on. If you launch the car from a stop, this is high load. If you take it easy in one gear, shift and immediately put your foot to the floor, this too, can be considered high load. Mashing the gas when the rpm is in the low to medium range in any gear is high load. You must understand what this means.
Also, if you've brought your diff up to max temp (like after a high speed hiway run), this is not the time to put on "load" during the break in phase of your new gears.
You seem to be a bit paranoid about repeating your misfortune of the last diff. Why not just take it easy and be safe? Why push the envelope by asking what the limits are? Spend the next several hundred miles without going nuts just as insurance. If you cannot restrain yourself for even such a short time, then you take the risk of seeing a replay of what you've already seen.

OK....Im just itching to vtec, and Ive been holding myself back. I havent put any load (such as you mentioned) on the car yet, so I guess I can hold out for a few hundred more miles. Those should be put on the car by monday.
Thanks again X....always got the right answers!!
