Thinking about putting gear into my car and my friend got a 4.56 that he's going to give it to me. Now, here's the questions:
I have the car for about 7 months now. It's an 03 and bought from the dealer. After buying the car i changed the tranny and diff fluids and check all the mechanic-wise just to make sure that the car is in good condition. Even after i had changed the tranny and diff fluids I still noticed the whinning noise like there's an after-market gear installed.
Anyway, i'd never paid much attention to it because i thought it's normal on the S until i saw the chart TURNZERO....GEAR CALCULATOR, and i was calculated on the 4.44 gear running on 255-40-17 tires.
With 4.44 gear top speed on 2nd @8900rpm is 61.1mph and in 6th @4000rpm is 71-72mph.
And so i went out and test run my car and in 2nd @9000rpm i am at 60mph and when cruising at 4000rpm in 6th it's 71-72mph.
So, is that correct gear ratio on the stock gear(4.10) and what is your MPH cruising in 6th @4000rpm? Also, what is your max speed on 2nd @9000rpm?
I want to know before putting in the 4.56 gear. Thanks

The stock gears are 4.10s. Check out this site for your answers:

Anyway, turnzero_gear_calculator is what i go by to check the stock gears vs the 4.44 gears and it's seen that the speed mph i test is more accuracy with the 4.44 gears than the stock 4.10 gears

Like i had say.....my friend is going to give me his 4.56 gears and i want to put that in before going S/C but if the S already had 4.44 gears then it's no need for me to install the 4.56 gears.
Did some more test run this morning since the weather is cool and still came out the same result:
2nd_ gear @9000RMP (before it blink) top speed is 60mph compared to the stock(4.10) 2nd gear @8900RPM top speed is 65-66 mph that show on the turnzero-gear-calculator

Then highway run in 6th @4000rpm= 71-72 MPH compared to stock(4.10) @4000rpm = 75-77mph that show on the chart and that's running on the 255-40-17 tires ....final drive or tranfer ratio is 1.16.

Is there a yellow box installed? A majority of people putting gears in also put in a yellow box. It would probably be behind the kick panel on the left of the driver.
