Or you can employ the use of this machine at a nearby dealer.

A lot of the Rover guys have used this machine and I've had it done on my D90. Sat there and watched the tech do it. I requested that he use a fresh batch of solution so I could see exactly what was being extracted. The solution is heated and cycled several times through the entire system.
Is it necessary for what you've got-dunno.

so what other side effects does flushing have?
I think that the Gunk and other brands of engine flush is nothing more than a quart of kerosene, though I could be wrong. I've used it on other engines, not the S, with no harm to the engine.
I change the oil ion my S as close to 3,000 miles as I can. I took the cam cover off to inspect the valve keepers a month or so ago and the inside of the cover and the valve train looked so clean you could eat off it. And that was with 93k or 94k miles on it.

A lot of what you see in your fresh oil might be old oil that wasn't completely drained. If you are using Jiffey Lube, this could be the problem. They will get you in and out within 10 minutes whether your old oil has drained completely or not. Ask them to keep the drain plug out for awhile longer next time. Good luck.
NEVER use Jiffy Lube -- They will RIP YOU OFF

However, it should be mentioned that if such a treatment is used, following the directions on the product is very important. Some people consider that if a little is good, a lot more is better. The sames goes for the amount of time this product is in the engine. It can serve no purpose but to do harm if it's kept in circulation beyond the recommended time frame.

Some Toyotas are notorious for building up engine sludge. Sometimes the buildup is un-fixable, and would cause the motor to crap out. But this was mainly in the 3Liter V-6 in mid-late 90's camrys, avalons, lexus es300s, and the minivan. Still, it could effect other Toyota engines.
The sludging of these engines is mainly caused due to long oil change intervals recommended in the owner's manual (they obviosuly screwed up).
I recommend searching for "toyota engine sludge", and I guarantee you will find many resources to look through.
Hope this helps!
