Calipers are cast . Don't think that any paint will effect transfer of heat from caliper . Cast iron is great heat sink . I have extra set of front calipers if we buy rear set could have powder coated on exchange basis . Seals could be changed at same time. I don't think that anyones are in very bad shape.

Got my calipers back from the plating shop and put together.

Here is a pic of the brakes with the casting marks ground off and cad plated silver (IMO the way they should have come from the factory):

cdelena, those are sweet!!!

I assume they are 'cad' plated? How much and how long did it take? Did you have any problems with rebuilding them?

I was getting ready to paint mine this weekend but your professional job makes me hesitate. I would like to do this only one time and do it right.

Thanks, Cad is the finish often used to eliminate corrosion in high heat applications. Many OEM brakes are still done with it.

The process usually takes about three days since that parts have to be cleaned, masked, dipped, and baked for at least 24 hours. Most plating shops will do cad in silver, gold, yellow, or black. I paid $88 but you may get quotes from $50 to $175.

Rebuilding the fronts are easy like any caliper but the rears are a bit more work because of the parking brake mechanism. Ideally you should use rebuild kits so that is another expense but Trevor at H&A can get them quickly at a good price.

Definitely not a weekend project, but certainly a more permanent finish than any paint.

cdelena,

Did the plating shop grind off the casting marks? They look excellent. I agree that Honda should have delivered the car with the calipers processed this way.

The OEM calipers look like they just came from a foundry casting and the untreated, rusty rotors are a serious aesthetic flaw.

cdelena,

your brakes look awesome! (again)

Did you use a rebuild kit for your rear calipers?
How much do the kits cost?
What do the kits include? Gaskets and stuff?

I am a novice auto mechanic and I rarely change my own pads. This weekend I was just going to paint the calipers and rotors to make them easier on the eyes. After seeing the results of your labor, I waiver agian.
