Default Put in the wrong type of tranny fluid...what should I do?

I asked for synthetic transmission fluid for my car at O rielly...and the guy sold me some 75w140:

http://www.crcindustries.com/productinfo.a...roductno=SL2496

I should have consulted this board first, but wasn't thinking.
So, I put the gear oil in...and shifting seems more notchy.

The gear oil was put in the tranny on sunday...will try to swap it out with Honda MTF tomorrow or friday.

Question is...can I blame the guy at O reilly for selling me 75w140?

He should know better than to sell you gear oil for a tranny.
Dump that oil ASAP before it eats something up. Replace with MTF, drive it for about 20 minutes, dump it out again and reload.

Well, the responsibility falls on both of you. He should have knowledge of what goes into your transmission casing, but you should also know that what you are putting into your car is the right stuff. But now you know, and that's all that matters.

That fluid is WAY to slippery for the proper engagement of your syncros. Syncros actually need to have a little friction in order to match speeds, and therefore, give a clean shift.

Just do what xviper said, drain the stuff. Put Honda MTF (or equivalent) in, drive a little, drain again, and refill. You should be alright.

Yeah...I figure I am at fault as much as the guy who sold it to me (or more).

Drained my oil catch last night. Going to buy 4 quarts of Honda mtf during my lunch break...and then flush and change out the fluid tonight.
Thanks for you help buds!

I'll report back tomorrow.

You should let it drain for a LONG time between refills to get as much of that gear oil out. You should also drain it while it is still hot. You will never be able to get ALL of it out, but you should get as much of it as you can.

Redline MT-90 or Honda MTF. If you have any 2nd gear grinding issues, go with Redline MT-90, especially during the summer in Texas.

This depends on how you drive the car - hard driving most of the time, track use? Your owner's manual will give you the "normal" and "severe" scheduled intervals for this change. Since it is not a difficult change to do, I plan to do it annually. If you track the car, you should consider much more frequently.
