Put on Stock exhaust, still running rich?
Car: 02' AP1
Mods: As of this moment, Short ram intake
Well I started off putting a Megan Test pipe on my stock exhaust and I was getting the typical bad smells and soot on my bumper, well I got an aftermarket single exhaust and it was doing the same except a little worse soot. Took off the test pipe and was running the aftermarket exhaust and I was still running rich.
5 months later I decide to put the stock exhaust on and I still get bad smells, keep in mind my car is all stock now, and my car runs fine, just smells bad and leaves soot on the bumper.
Tried searching but no luck

If you had a test pipe instead of a cat, that's what it does. Not necessarily running richer, just allowing the hydrocarbons out without burning up in the catalyst you removed.
So now you have th stock cat back on and it still runs like that? Reset you ECU and see what happens from there.

it's probably because of your test pipe, i think you're stuck with that smell indefinitely. on my berk high flow cat, you get the test pipe smell for maybe a week (while it's still new) but it goes away. i picked the hfc 'cause it's only like a 1 whp/1 wtq difference, somewhat legit versus having no cat, no cel, and no smell...
i have a celica too!
