The sensor may have been damaged during the work...not sure how, but I know the plastic on the plugs gets old and brittle pretty quick on this car (the knock sensor can break very easily should a wrench extension hit it when removing the starter).
Otherwise...sorry we let you down...most times there are only a very few common reasons the car why a car won't start when the head has been off (tooth off timing the cam or ground issue). This is the first I recall the crank sensor causing a problem like this...and it still doesn't explain the other electical issues you are having.
BTW...do you have any splices into the harness...like a VAFC or the like? CKit had an electical issue that was hurting performance (but the car ran) that he traced to wiring in the harness.
