Default put 5 qts of oil and i'm still getting one x

Guys today I did my first oil change on the s2k. I read on the manual that this engine takes 5.1 qts, I put exactly 5 qts of oil and no matter what I do I'm only getting 1 x and a bit more. I took the stick out, waited 4 minutes and nothing; Ive done all kind of stuff and still nothing. How many qts are you guys putting in?

It can vary from 5.1 to almost 6. Each car can be different. Just fill it to the top of the X's.
It also depends on how and when you check the oil. Checking it immediately after an oil change by running the car for a few minutes is not a good indication of what's really in there. Your newly added oil won't heat up enough to efficiently drain back into the pan.
Here's some hints on how to check the oil. It's a simple thing but many people still seems to do it poorly.

Interesting question with three correct ansers:

1) Oil change only- 4.8 US Qts.
2) Oil & Filter - 5.1 US Qts.
3) At overhaul 5.9 US Qts.

We could talk all night on weather your reading the dipstick on the passenger or driver side .
