Default purge solenoid control valve - get rid of it?

Hi guys,

I think this is the purge solenoid control valve?

and it's connected to this, which I'm not sure what it does?

Can I get rid of either / both of these? What do they do exactly?

Thanks!

That solenoid is used to store vacuum (in the tank pictured), which is then used to open and shut the air injection valve. Remove it and you will throw a CEL.

All of that is part of the secondary air injection system. Removing any of those items will cause a P0411 check engine light. Removal of the system will not affect the performance of the car, you'll just have the light. Be sure to cap vacuum ports if you plan on removing.

Hmm thanks guys, I don't want to mess around having lights on, may be a bit of a pain to explain to the next owner when I come to sell! Will buy some extra hose I guess so I can move it to a more convenient place.

Thanks!
