if the engine barely hit 9k rpms then you have nothing to worry about on the one mis-shift, you don't know how it was treated in the past though.

If you didn't see any sunken keepers then button it up and the factory parts should last the life of the engine.

Sounds good, still going to swap out the retainers and keepers and potentially the springs over the winter. Planning on a SOS super charger kit. Would really like to put one on knowing the engine has zero issues or weak points. Thanks for all the comments.

Replacing the keepers intuitively requires a valve clearance adjustment. Regardless, have it done and set to the wide side of spec. While the cover is off a compression and leakdown check is simple to do and a set of new spark plugs is inexpensive as they just screw in. New gaskets all around. Clean out the PCV valve.

Shopping around for the cheapest price may not result in the best service. Reputation of the place is important. I'm pretty sure these tasks are within most of our abilities with a few good tools and a garage. Engine needs to be "cold" to adjust valve clearance (under 100°F).

Its not that hard of a job to do yourself. Just take your time and be careful. Cover all the holes so that nothing can fall into the engine and go one at a time. There is a DIY on this.

I just did mine following the dyi. I had three cracked, however only one was evident via a sunken valve.

Im in North Virginia, I think I have a shop figured out to do the work.... Its not something I want to attempt without having seen it done first. I would also have to aquire some parts/tools before taking on the task.

Ill take it to my shop in early spring and they are going to do a leak down test, swap out the springs, all retainers, new spark plugs and do the valve alignment as well as replace my clutch and then I will spend some time talking with their residential S2K expert on my options for F/I. Which I believe I will be sticking to the SOS stage one kit.

If I were you I would make the drive to Jordan in Christiana, TN. Nobody will match his level of work and prices within the same radius of where you are.

357Magnole,
Had my AP1 intake valve retainers done a year ago at a local S2K shop here in SE NC. Cost circa $425, which included parts, labor, new plugs and valve adjustment. Work was done in one day. None of my retainers were cracked, but it was worth the piece of mind. Best of luck!
