Proper disposal of brake fluid
Hi,
I just changed pads (to Cobalt pads), and bled my brake system, putting in ATE Blue. I now have almost a pint of old brake fluid in a jar. I understand that this is pretty foul stuff, not to be disposed of with old oil. What is the responsible way to dispose of this?
Thanks.

Just dump it in the nearest salmon spawning stream....
No, actually you better not. Here are three links from Google. Interestingly, they sort of say three different things.

Our local Pep Boys will NOT accept brake fluid. In fact, most places that recycle engine oil will have nothing to do with brake fluid, or coolant for that matter. I take my hazardous material to a local recycling center, specifically set up for receiveing hazardous material.
Of interest, the last time I went there they nearly refused to accept my brake fluid in the ATE can because it was for "racing" use. They said that they only acceptd materials from private citizens, not "race shops". I had to make a very impassioned speach to get them to accept my nearly 3 liters of accumulated brake fluids
