Problem, is it a wheel bearing?
Hi, I am a regular poster in the UK forum but thought I would try here first as there are lot more of you so one of you might have come across this strange one.
Problem: Intermittent rumbling/juddering sensation from left rear side of the car (as you look at the rear) coming from the wheel/suspension area Feels like you are going over rumble strips or a mottled surface even if the road is smooth. It is a vibrating sesation and you can hear it and feel it through the seat of your pants (it is not a violent vibration but easily noticeable). It gives a humming noise.
When does it occur:
On right hand bends, powering out of the corner when the load transfers to that side right up until the car is straight and the gas eased off. Typically at speeds of 40 and up.
At speeds over 110mph when on the throttle even when travelling in a straight line. Ease off on the straight away and drop below 100 and it goes away.
It does not seem to affect handling significantly but does become a little bit more unstable when compared to taking a left hand bend.
When does it not occur:
When taking a right hand corner gently and slowly with little gas.
Taking any left hand corner at any speed, even banzai.
The problem only occurs when there is load AND the throttle is being used, as you turn in to the corner it does not do it and only starts once you add the throttle.
Current Diagnosis so far:
A mechanic (not familiar with S2000s) had it up on a ramp and tried to move the wheel from left to right, there was no movement there. He looked underneath the car at the suspension and there was no obvious cracks or leaks (he did not scruitinise it extensively though).
Any suggestions????
