Default problem :: hesitating in vtec; help from xviper, UL and others appreciated

Today, after some vtecing, car started to hesitate in vtec right at 7000 rpms. It hesitated for about one half of second and then normally reved to 9k. I tried slowly accelerating in gear, and at 7k rpm, car stuttered. I have also tried slowly reving it up to 9k, but the car stuttered at 7k rpm. This is the first time something like that happened, and it is quite obvious. Car is MY00 (March), 43kkm. I'm taking car to the dealer on monday. I have done some searching on this forum, and now I have the following questions:

What could be the cause? After reading some threads, I suspect the following:
1 - MAP
2 - spark plugs
3 - injectors
4 - cat

I have also read, that on monday this behaviour might dissappear. Is this likely to happen? This means I might not be able to reproduce the problem at the dealer.

Can I create any damage to the car while vtecing in such condition? I will probably have to do some vtecing to be able to reproduce the problem again.

I would say its most likely plugs or MAP, but its hard to diagnose by internet.

I would be hesistant to drive the car until you identify the problem. If its a plug problem, you could lose the engine. You could check and tighten the plugs, but that might hide the problem and any damage you might have done.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

V-tec is oil sensitive, make sure your oil is topped off.

Go with what has already been suggested. I don't have any different ideas.

That same thing happened to me twice. Once was way back when I first got the car and the other was recently.

The most recent occurrence ended up being that the inside of my cat melted. It also happened to melt the end of the O2 sensor that is mounted to it. Once this happened, the Check Engine Light came on and I took it immediately to the dealer.

They replaced the O2 sensor under my extended warranty and the cat was replaced under the Emissions Warranty (<80k miles).

I got the car back last week, and now I have a new problem. The engine seems to not be able to idle and then dies when I step on the clutch while coming to a stop. This doesn't happen all the time, but once it happens, it keeps on repeating this problem. I'm still trying to establish some commonalities between these occurrences.

Anyway, I would take your car to the dealer for some diagnostic service. Please post what they find on this thread.

Thanks,
joe

My car had the same problem. They said it was the air intake temp sensor. They replaced it, no more problems after that
