Default Previous owner deleted Secondary Air Injection, why would someone do that?

So I bought my 2000 S2000 in October, the old owner told me the CEL Light was only because he deleted the secondary air injection, other than that there was no issue. Seems to have been true because the cars been running amazingly for about 5k miles of fun now, but why would he have deleted it in the first place, what's the benefit of that? And is there some sort of sensor thingy i could get to get rid of that CEL?

Weight savings (minimal) or component failure is the most common reason to elimate it.

yeah and it cleans up the engine bay if you get rid of the EGR and all the associated vacuum lines and everything. Get that air pump delete kit and the EGR block off plate and you'll be good.
