Pressing out the wheel bearing
#11
Save the old bearing pieces that you remove to support the new ones, as you press in the hub in the last step in the process. The old bearings fall apart on removal, but save the halves and duct tape them together to use as supports on the new bearing install.

Hey Guys,
So I was able to press out the bearing with advice from Lone Wolf Racing (LWR)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZAcSks1-fQ
I was really afraid that the arm and caliper bracket would snap off, so LWR advised to lay the knuckle flat on the press table surface and push out the first couple mm, which requires the most force. After the initial break, transfer the knuckle on the stand and continue pressing. With reduce forces on the arm, I feel that the knuckle's service life time is preserved. Excellent advice from LWR!!

So I have another question. The hub had some play while still on knuckle + bearing+ hub. But I think the play came from bad bearing. How do you tell if the hub is actually bad?

This is what distinguish good and bad. See Post#2 https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/929...ut-tsb-diy/

I would recommend geting a new hub when changing wheel bearings. It's just a lot easier and most of the time if the bearing is bad the hub will be as well. Plus 90% of the time the inner bearing race is stuck on the hub and it's a bitch to get off.

If you have bad bearings chances are the hub probably isn't in great shape, despite it's appearance. Only way to know for sure is to mic it, and see if the sleeve where the bearing fits over is still concentric.

wasn't my OP, but i just did the civic front bearings with the suggestions here. Worked like a charm supporting the bearing from underneath with the old bearing stack inner race and greasing the surfaces.
I did put my bearing and the hub in the deep freeze overnight, and left the knuckle in the sun for a few hours to expand the metal a fraction. used a 12 ton press with great success!
thanks s2ki.
