Premature Clutch Wear???
I know...i could have done a search, but i did not find any results that i liked...
2002 S2K
24,000 Miles
Clutch is beginning to slip. Noticed mainly because in a hard shift from 1-2 i cant turn the rear tires over any more, the motor just kinda bogs while the clutch catches up.
I dont drive horribly hard, and dont launch on the street except for 2 or 3 times, and only been to the drag strip twice, with a few runs each time!
I am also getting symptoms similar to the 2000's in regard to TSB 54.
Should i try and get it under the TSB, or go with an aftermarket clutch?
Thanks,
John

My '02 started having those symptoms at about 10K miles. I haven't ever been able to "chirp" my tires into 2nd gear. In a fast shift into 3rd at high RPMs, it will take a second or two before the engine RPM and tranny RPM matches. I now have 25K miles on it. Unless you just really want to be able to break your tires loose, you don't need to replace it until it starts slipping AFTER it is fully engaged.

I think the OEM set up is designed to do that to reduce stress on the rear end. If you replace it with the same unit, i m sure you ll get the same thing soon. If you upgrade the clutch to a better unit, you run the risk of grenading your rear end. Thats just MO of course

get this...
The dealer i bought my car from (Wilde Honda) claims 13-15 HRS to do the clutch....he said it involves raising the motor, removing the front suspension, and pulling the tranny.....
Acura Brookfield, and Russ Darrow Honda both quoted me $580 to do the clutch.....
A buddy who works at a tranny shop quoted me $200-300 depending on amound of work needed, and we will do it at his house, plus he will resurface my flywheel if necessary for free.....
Keep in mind...these prices above are only for labor, i am buying the clutch through a private source locally....
Which do you guys think is best?
Oh yeah, Wilde has not done an S2000 clutch yet, so they have no idea what they are getting into...Acura has done 1 S2000, and a few NSX's, and Russ Darrow has done 5 TSB 54's, and rebuilt 2 S2000 trannies!!!!

Actually it is lowering the motor, and the front suspension is not touched.
I think the book on the clutch is 8.5 hours (time for an experienced mechanic with complete facility and tools) so $550 - $750 is probably right.
Take it to the person / place you trust after discussing the repair. There is no sure thing, but it sounds like RD may be the best of the choices given.

If you are doing it on the ground, it will be a major painstaking task, I recommend that if you have no patience, dont do it, it is very challenging. it actually involves taking the header out, cat, lowering the frame 3" inches and pulling the tranny
