Default Power Steering

I recently had my power steering replaced about 6 months ago after an accident. Recently I have noticed that it feels twitchy. It actually feels like a power steering system that is low on fluid but I realize ours is an electric motor.

On pavement stopped with engine running and slowly turning the wheel is when its most noticable. It feels like you turn the wheel and the power is struggling to keep up, like a half inch lag.

When driving around 50 any notches or grooves in the road seem to agitate it also.

I just checked my power and it was ~11v off and a steady 12v with the engine running. Isn't it supposed to be around 14v running? Maybe this could be causing my sluggish steering.

Yes, your battery voltage should be about 12 with engine off and about 14 with the engine running. Try a new(er) battery.

Check your tire pressure all around for that one, just to be certain. You may have two problems.

Maybe, I've had low tire pressure not show anything on accel or decel but catch grooves more prominently.

The steering torque sensor probably needs to be reset:

I will keep this in mind.

I honestly think the sluggish steering is because my alt is only putting out
12v. Does anyone else think this could be the culprit or am I alone?

The alt is only outputting 12v or the battery is outputting 12v?

Pull the alt and take to an auto parts shop, they'll test it.
