"Power" Ground wires...some interesting results...

A friend of mine (business journalist) did an article on stereo speaker wire in which he had industry-recognized audiophiles listen to music on a very high-end sytem with the only variable being the speaker wire. He had arranged for eveything from lamp cord to extremely high-end wire (>$10k). Yes, you read that correctly, speaker wire that sells for over $10k for one system!
First, in a blind test, the audiophiles could distinguish the truly inexpensive stuff from the mid-priced wires (like Monster cable), but they could not tell when the really expensive wire sets were being used. Then, being in a twisted mood, he told the audiophiles that they were listening to the $10k wire and wrote down their enthusiastic reports of increased definition of certain instruments and loss of harshness at certain frequencies. They went on an on. In reality, they were listening to one of the mid-grade wires and were not pleased when he revealed his trick.
Just to keep this on topic for one paragraph - I saw a 350 Z with large guage "performance wire" installed. The owner reported smoother idle, but I suggested that the recent change of weather down here to cooler temperatures and lower humidity could easily acount for that. He concurred, but added that he was frustrated by the lack of aftermarket equipment for his car and figured it couldn't hurt.

MacGyver, this is why I followed the instructions in YOUR website for shaving my S2000 badges! On a related point, does this mean that the faux shaker hood in a modern Mustang doesn't really make the car go faster? Another dream dies.

Doc, I always love to see the words "industry-recognized" and "audiophiles" in the same sentence...makes me roll my eyes and give a good snort/chuckle. The fact that they "thought" they could hear a difference between the high-end and mid-grade wires just proves my point...people are more willing to believe the hype instead of truly being objective (is that even possible, being human?). I'm surprised the guy didn't replace the wires with lamp cords and THEN tell them they were the $10k set. Romex, babay! At 10 cents/foot and 3 wires/foot, it's some gooood stuff
cb, I'm not sure what hood you're talking about, unless you mean the small round vents on the top, like on the Cobras, and such. Not a clue if they're actually open into the engine bay or not.

MacG, I was referring to the hood scoop in the Mustangs. I think in the new Cobra that it's barely functional (i.e, that the air flows through a long duct somewhere, but it's not providing but a small fraction of the intake), but in the rest of the Mustangs it's purely for show, along with those fake rear brake ducts. I actually knew the answer to this one and was just poking fun. The more I look at car design, the more amusing the styling cues become. Even our fake front brake ducts merit a bit of ridicule, although I've opened mine to try to get some air under the hood to the turbo. - CBender

MacGyver - I'll pas your suggestion on to my friend fr the next time he writes one of these articles up. I still want to see a truly double blind test of speaker wires to get to the truth.

In a blind taste test of beers, Old Milwauke came out on top. Now, I don't drink that much, but I tried some. They're right! Goes to show there is a lot of hype in audio and beer!

as for those $10k wires, made out of nano wires thin as 20 brand the width of an hair,(thats crazy)... they do a difference on high output high frequencies... backgroud buzzing is also killed, there are some wraping that sells claiming to cut static and magnetik intrusions as well as groundin copper or silver tape over the already wraped against static parasitin..BLABLAbla. it kinda works. but it woudnt be noticeable on normal audio system. My old men is builder of some of the finest electrostatic ACOUSTAT high output high deff audio system in quebec if not all Canada and Usa, testin 40k$ cd drivers only from special compagnies...I beleive some notions of electroacoustics could be heplfull for squeezing the max out of a mod ride... insulting signal fequencies from sensors, depending how performant the sensor is... but just buy swaping the wires on a stock car would do much i think. decreasing resistance for all grounding application on car might just do better by brushing the oxydation off the terminals.
