Default Possibly clutch issue - can't shift at all :(

Sorry if this is a newb question, I'm sort of new to this technical stuff.....

Just wondering if anyone can chime in on the following symtoms I'm experiencing:
1) When the engine is started, I can't shift into any gears.
2) When I start the car in 1st gear, I hear a very loud grinding sound coming from around the clutch area.
3) When the car is not started, I can cycle through the gears (not really sure if this really matters).

Anyways, this was a result of what happened last night while driving home. I was coming up to a intersection and tried to down shift from 3rd to 2nd but as soon as I got out of 3rd, I couldn't get back into 2nd; my car was in neutral so I pulled it over to the side of the road. I tried to pop it back into 1st but it wouldn't go so I restarted the car and tried again. It went into 1st, but I started hearing some metal clattering noises coming from the clutch area. I managed to get the car back home (which was only like an addition 400m from where I was) in 1st.

Sounds like my clutch is pretty messed up; I should probably take it to the shop to get it diagnosed, but I like to experiment a little at home and see if I can identify the issues and even possibly attempt to replace the components myself.

Thanks in advance!!

Sorry, and to add to the above post, I've checked the master cylinder, etc and do not see any or any signs of leaks.

Did your clutch pedal get really easy to depress? As in almost no resistance until it almost hits the floor? A lot of air in the hydraulics would make it difficult to disengage the clutch enough to put the transmission into gears. You say you restarted the car, then put it into first, followed by grinding noises?

The movement in the clutch is still the same as before so I don't think its air in the system.

I tried starting the car in first gear today; once started, there was a loud grinding noise until I turned the car off again. It feels like if was metal to metal or something is loose.

your clutch disc is probably busted. I've had this happen on two of my integras. Both resulted in similar symptoms. hard time getting into gear. After i diagnosed that the master cylinder and slave cylinder were fine and there was no air in the lines, turned out it was my clutch disc.

OK. You've eliminated the cheap, easy things first. Sounds like the next step is to drop the tranmission...

Do these clutch discs break easily? I figured if I replace the clutch disc, then I'd might as well replace the flywheel as well for a lighter one (perhaps AP1 flywheel).

Ya, I wanted to see if I could diagnose here on the forum before I drop the transmission...hehe...

Does the following list of parts look pretty reasonable? Am I missing anything or is there excess parts I do not need?

Part No. Description Unit Price Total Price

22200-PCX-055 DISK, FRICTION $112.53 $112.53
22300-PCX-015 DISK, PRESSURE $228.18 $228.18
91006-PCX-008 BEARING, CLUTCH PILOT $14.00 $14.00
90429-PCX-000 WASHER (38X88X2) $8.83 $8.83
90034-689-000 BOLT, TWELVE POINT (8MM) (TOKAI TRW) $3.94 $35.46 (9 units)
90011-PCX-B01 BOLT (12MM) $3.08 $24.64 (8 units)

You dont need to get all the parts you listed. You will need to pull the clutch out and see what parts you will need. All the others can be reused.

Flywheel - Can be turned (reused)
Disk- good price
PRESSURE plate - Can be reused.. make sure there is no cracks in the plate. Always nice to have a new one tho.
BEARING, CLUTCH PILOT - good price
WASHER - wont need a new one if your old one spends good. Re-grease it.
BOLT, TWELVE POINT (8MM - can be reused
BOLT (12MM) - can be reused
BEARING, CLUTCH RELEASE - can be reused IF its still in good shape BUT always a good idea to install a new one. Good price
FORK, CLUTCH RELEASE - can be reused.

So only buy the Disk and throw out (release) Bearing and if you need it , the pressure plate.
Have your flywheel turned

Any benefits in getting an aftermarket pressure plate such as the ACT one? Any benefits in getting a lightweight flywheel? Maybe the ACT streetlite? Reason I ask is if I am going to have the transmission dropped, I'd might as well get some upgraded parts
