So then if I check behind the radio there should be a wire that is given 12volts when the mute button is engaged?
No one else drives my car, and the point of doing this is I dont want anyone to know I have nitrous! I got a ZEX kit so even if the NOS is engaged it wont spray unless the engine is WOT.
So basically if I check behind the radio there should be a wire that if I test will go from 0v to 12v when the mute button is engaged?
Thanks for all the input so far.

I have Modifry's shift module running my nitrous along with a arm switch. If the system is not armed no nitrous, if the module is not turned on via the cruise control buttons no nitrous.
in order for nitrous to work...
1. Bottle needs to be opened
2. system needs to be armed via a switch in the dash
3. Modifry shift modules needs to ne turned on (in nitrous mode)
4. because of the module the RPM's need to be within the set range. I have the RPM window set at 3800 - 8600

The cruise buttons also put out +12v, but it's momentary, so without some extra circuitry, you can't use those.

For quickie jobs, I work with a small relay from RS...contacts rated at up to 1A, part #275-233. The coil is 1050 ohms, so current is at a minimum (about 11 mA).

Try to use a low-current relay, not one of those 30Amp jobbies that needs 1/4 amp for the coil. The MUTE button output is through a tiny surface-mount transistor which can't drive much current, if you over-load it you'll see smoke. I would think you'd be safe with a relay coil rated at 100ma (0.1 amps) or less. That corresponds to a coil resistance of 150 ohms or greater.
